Sunday evening and I dial the access number, enter the pin and I hear, 'your credit has expired' and I ask myself where have all my minutes gone.

The answer I found was simple, I believed that for a fiver I would get the 1000's of minutes of cheap international calls to South Africa as advertised on a calling card poster in a newsagent's shop window. Annoyed that I had been ripped off I returned to read the very small print on the poster and with my nose pressed against the grimy glass I quickly realised that they were not cheap calls after all and even my PHD in mathematics would not help me work out the call cost!
